The Discipline of Grace is another gem of a book written by Jerry Bridges. He has a way of combining several thoughts from his other writings and to show the importance of the discipline of grace….especially through our lifetime walk and progressive sanctification through Christ. The discussion guide in the back of the book would make for a good group Bible study. He has pertinent Bible verses to back up his thoughts.Update: I took the pictures in order, but somehow they’re all out of order! You may have to slide around to read all of the preface pages!This book is now one of my favorites of all time concerning living the Christian life. It took me awhile to get through this book, but I am so grateful I continued reading it. The Discipline of Grace helped me immensely in my relationship with God.Each chapter was rich with helpful breakdowns of the truths of the Gospel and God’s Word. As I read, my desire to walk in God’s ways and grow in grace and the things of the Christian life was greatly helped.I personally think this book is a must read for every believer!This was a good book on application of the Gospel for daily living through disciplines powered by the Grace of God. Insightful and helpful.Great book. It arrived in poor condition. It was wet and the pages are warped.It has been a handful of years since I had read a Jerry Bridges book and I had forgotten how tremendous of a Christian author and teacher he is.I sought out The Discipline of Grace wanting to grow in the area of spiritual disciplines. My performance and productivity driven attitude was looking for practicality - what to do and not to do. In true Bridges fashion, even his book about "our role in the pursuit of holiness" spent the first 8 chapters properly framing the role of our works and actions in the Christian life.No matter how 'good' one could become, it could never be good enough. Any spiritual discipline must come as a response to God's grace and love, not a means to earn it. Daily preaching the gospel to yourself is the key to properly maintaining an accurate view of both God's role and our role in the pursuit of holiness.His example of having a race-car mentality when it comes to obedience (rather than cruise-control) is powerful and convicting. Through the Spirit's undeniable guidance, he masterfully demanded that believers be relentless in their disciplines and obedience to Christ while understanding that, unless that discipline is done through a spirit of dependence on God, it is futile."Our behavior may appear outstanding to other people but not be acceptable to God because it does not spring from a motive of love to him. Only conduct that arises from love is worthy of the name of obedience."This is an important and helpful book as you embark on the journey of sanctification and your glorification of the LORD!I've read a lot of Christian books. Growing up in the church, Christians are already very prone to be "booky" people. And couple that with my love of reading, and I've become a Christian book consumer. But this one stands alone.Perhaps it was the timing of my reading it: I was a Freshman in college. I have always struggled to balance legalism with license to sin (anti-nomianism). The Discipline of Grace is all about staying out of these two ditches on either side of the road that is the Christian life. I struggled because I wanted to pursue godliness and holiness so much, but found myself doing it to gain God's approval. And in other seasons, I would almost justify my continuing sin by banking on God's grace. Enter this book.Bridges shows how grace actually teaches and trains us (Titus 2) and we actually use the good news of the gospel and the love God has already given us to motivate us to pursue holiness. It's a high view of grace/justification and high view of holiness/sanctification. I had never heard this message in my entire life.Preaching the gospel to yourself has become my mantra for my entire life since reading this book. I try to get it into as many hands as I can.*A great companion book to read alongside this is "A Gospel Primer" by Milton Vincent - which was actually written as a response to this book.God bless you, Jerry Bridges.Very happy with lights, great quality and easy to install.Looks good, well built, easy to install.Love it !I liked this fixture.
